Michelle Young, the Bachelorette of Season 18 and Babattunde Nayte Olukoya have confirmed break up rumors. The couple got engaged in the season finale of the show – their journey was full of ups and downs but one can tell how much Nayte has grown through the experience. On June 17, Michelle confirmed on her Instagram Story that they were splitting after 6 months of engagement.
Michelle said: “I’m struggling to say that Nayte and I will be going our separate ways but I stand with him in knowing the heaviness that is present in both of our hearts as this relationship has been very real for us.”
She said to Nayte the following “You quickly became my best friend and the love I have for you is incredibly strong. I will never stop wanting to see you succeed.”
To her followers Michelle says “ I will always acknowledge and appreciate the adventures, support, and growth both Nayte and this experience have brought me,” she concluded her message. “At the same time, I’m deeply hurting and will need time and space to work through this heartbreak.”
Nayte shared a message as well that reads: “ “When we both started this journey we were looking for our Soulmates. Our forever. Our best friends. However, as we grow and learn, we also realize that sometimes somebody that you hold dear to your heart isn’t somebody that you’re meant to spend the rest of your life with. Michelle and I are going to move forward separately. Hearts are heavy, emotions are high, and we are dealing with this the best way we can.
Nayte’s message insinuated that Michelle is not her soulmate, nor his forever. Also, from the very first lines, one can notice Nayte is the one having trouble settling in the relationship.
Nayte made sure everyone understood and knew that his relationship with Michelle was “real.” Michelle did so as well in her statement.
Nayte added by saying : “We genuinely fell in love and we genuinely became each other’s best friends. Michelle and I will always hear each other on, but moving forward we will be these two complete strangers on your television screen, we appreciate you so much. Our relationship may have developed in the public eye, and we know this news will bring a lot of mixed reactions, but please remember that this is real. The emotions are real. The heartbreak is real. And that we are real.
We’re human beings going through a breakup, and we all know breakups are difficult. So we’re asking that you allow us our privacy so that we can mend our hearts in the privacy of our own lives. Thank you.”
We saw this coming. On the Bachelor Nation Podcast, Nayte, Michelle and Rodney discuss the pressure of finding love on the “Bachelorette” – a topic on which Nayte expressed himself saying it’s hard.
One thing we find odd is that Nayte and Michelle were supposed to move in together right after the season finale, but for some reason, 6 months later they are still doing long distance. Also, we think Michelle may have felt a lot of pressure from the relationship leading to her taking a break from Teaching.
This is really unfortunate as we really like them together.
